Although Spring is only just round the corner, Fashion Week has given us a glimpse into the not so distant future and one thing is for certain - hair accessories are big news for Autumn and Winter.
Over the past few seasons fashion has championed a paired down, minimalist appearance which, although looking extremely chic, has given accessories a bit of a back seat. As catwalk trends for Spring/Summer move towards more of a maximalism approach, we see accessories - especially hair accessories - being a huge feature. To our delight, this trend is ever more apparent for the coming Autumn/Winter!
Here are some of our favourite and most exciting hair trends seen at Fashion Week:
Hair Jewellery at Alexander McQueen
Never one to shy away from decoration, Sarah Burton brought a touch of decadence to the models at McQueen, using jewellery pieces to adorn their messy up-dos. A mix of chains, charms and plenty of jewels gave the collection an air of eccentricity and a certain je ne sais quoui! These hair accessories are reminiscent of the things found whist rummaging through boxes of vintage costume jewellery. Check out our collection of vintage inspired brooches or Swarovski Crystal encrusted clips so you don't have to do the rummaging!
Flower Crowns at Rodarte
Flower crowns have been a favourite for summer days and festivals over the past couple of years but they were brought up to date and given an ethereal twist at Rodarte. Art Nouveau style gold tiaras were placed on model's heads and intertwined with real orchids. The contrast between the metal tiaras and the delicate flowers gave the collection a tough yet romantic look. If real flowers aren't your game, this fabric orchid by Rosie Fox teamed with one of Gil Fox's handmade sequin pieces should do the trick!
Custom Kirby Grips at MaxMara
At MaxMara, hairstylist Sam McKnight spray-painted metal hair grips with multicoloured car paint for a fun and custom look. If you're not feeling too DIY, shop our range of kirby grips here. These ones add just the right pop of colour.
Art Deco Tiaras at Peter Pilotto
A touch of elegance was added to second-day textured hair with beaded Art Deco style tiaras. Similar to the flower crown's at Rodarte, the key is wearing them at the back of the head as opposed to on the top. We have called them hair necklaces and the two designs we have can be found here and here. Simply pin them into your style and go!
"Hairbadashery" at Dolce & Gabbana
Backstage stylist Adam Reed coined the term "Hairbadashery" to describe the season's trend for hair accessories. The term sums up the headpieces worn at the Dolce & Gabbana show perfectly. More is certainly more here. Each model had a personalised look. Shop our range of vintage style hair accessories and get a little collection of key pieces going. (All accessories in the photo above can be found here!)
Ribbon Hair Ties at Roksanda
The popularity of ribbon hair ties is ever growing - who could not love a handy hair elastic that still looks chic when worn on the wrist! At Roksanda, models sported low ponytails that were kept fresh with two brightly coloured ribbon ties. These premium ribbon ties by Adorable Things are perfect.
