Shop Small: Small Business Saturday 2016

Small Business Saturday is coming up on the 3rd of December! Read on to find out more about the small businesses we love and why it's so important to shop local this Christmas.

Small Business Saturday is coming up again on the 3rd of December! Since its launch in 2013, the UK based grassroots campaign Small Business Saturday has worked to highlight small businesses by encourage consumers to "shop small" and support their local community.

Supporting independent shops is something that is very important to us, not only as a small business ourself, but as one that also relies on many small businesses as our suppliers! As such we always look forward to events which help to show off all of the hard work that we do.

Diid you know that in the UK, small and medium-sized businesses are responsible for a huge 60% of all private sector employment? Or that there are 1028 businesses per 10,000 adults? That means that one in 10 of us Brits own our own business! With this in mind, here's a bit about some of our favourite UK based small businesses (who you just so happen to be able to find right here on our webstore!)

Mojiana

Another Brighton-based designer! Here at Tegen, we stock Mojiana's 'Project Britain' collection. This unique range of cuffs, necklaces and hair accessories have been laser cut into acrylic using layered imagery - giving off a strong sense of designer Moji's signature style usually associated with her couture collections.

This Project Britain collection reflects the designer’s life in England by using iconic imagery and city skylines to produce a range of wearable everyday pieces which still make a statement!

Quinton & Chadwick

Designers Jess Quinton and Jane Chadwick have been running their small knitwear business for the last 10 years. In that time, they've built up a brand renowned for their use of traditional British techniques to create their beautiful hats, scarves and gloves. Specialising in accessories using 100% Pure New Wool, they focus on creating designs that combine strong, bold pattern and colour with traditional British heritage.

Each piece is knitted entirely by hand in Britain by small co-operatives of women with the aim to make knitwear to keep and love, with enough character and quality to make it more than a one-season wonder.

We hope you'll get out in town and support some of your local small businesses this Saturday. If you're in Brighton, pop down to our little shop on Meeting House Lane and say hello!
